Bluetooth v3.0 Wireless
SMH10D-11 can wirelessly connect to other Bluetooth devices supporting HSP/HFP (Headset Profile/Hands Free Profile) and A2DP (Advance Audio Distribution Profile). HSP/HFP is standard in all phones with Bluetooth features. Almost all Bluetooth MP3 players, smartphone, and audio dongles support A2DP to send stereo audio to Bluetooth headsets like the Sena SMH10D-11. Enjoy Bluetooth music playback control by AVRCP: play, pause, track forward and track back.
Other Bluetooth features include Multi-Pair to allow intercom functionality for 4 persons, and compatibility with select motorcycle GPS systems.
Individual Adjustable Volume Profiles
You can easily decrease/increase the volume of the voice, music and intercom using Jog Dial. The SMH10D-11 can save volume levels of previously connected profiles. This means that phone volume (HSP/HFP), music volume (A2DP), and intercom volumes will be saved separately and return to its own saved volume level whenever associated profile is reconnected.
Profile volume adjustment is only affected during the use of its specific profile. However, when changing volume during standby mode, then volume change applies to all profiles. Alert tones like low battery warning and connection tones can only be adjusted in standby mode.
The SMH10D-11 will fit onto various types of helmets. The universal microphone kit included in this bundle includes both a boom mic and a wire mic, and will fit onto most types of helmets. For installations which may require extra wire length, ear buds instead of speakers, and wire microphone instead of boom microphone, Sena offers different types of clamps as an additional accessory (sold separately), to allow various installations and user preferences.

" We purchased the Sena SMH10D-11 for our motorcycle helmets. We previously purchased the Scala Pro Rider at $400.00 and returned them after 4 uses. They are difficult to turn on and of, did not connect to each other without hours of tinkering with, always had to re-connect with difficulty, died after a few hours of use, charging them overnight. The Scala had invisible buttons that were not easy to press.
The Sena are awesome, right out of the box, set up took a couple minutes, Bluetooth was instant, betw. helmets, iPhone. The music from my iPhone sounds excellent in stereo.
I love that it has a (jog)dial to turn volume up & down, it makes it so much easier. Also, has a flat microphone that Velcros to the inside of your helmet so you don't have to use the boom mic. it's almost invisible that it's there, if you use a full face that is.
Sena was $100. less but 100% better. Love IT "

" I decided to go ahead and order the Sena SMH10-11. So far I love it. I am pretty happy with it. Here are some of the reasons.
Options galore. What kind of options you say?
1. You can use earbuds with the optional accessory. I haven't thrown down the cash yet, but I am definitely considering it in the future.
2. You can use the boom mic, or the wired mic if you get the SMH10-11. Typically boom mic for modular, wired mic for full face, but up to you.
3. There is an aux input, so you can wire non bluetooth accessories as well. Haven't tried it yet, since I use my phone.
4. You can get the SMH5 for a partner for cheap. The SMH5 runs about $100. The main difference is smaller speakers, less range, less connectivity, and no aux. Perfect for a secondary set or to convince your cheap ass friend to buy so you can communicate while on the road. It does pair with the SMH10.
5. Firmware updates. They just released v4.2 last month or so.
The wired mic is really nice because I really disliked the idea of a boom sticking out of my helmet. Now, they do have the boom where it's a wired boom now, so you can stick it in the helmet so half the boom flex is not sticking out of the helmet which is a nice touch, but I still prefer the wired mic. Much smaller and manageable. However, maybe the sound isn't as good? I haven't compared the two."

" I received the SMH10-11 two weeks ago. I installed it in my Shoei full face helmet the following day. This item comes with two microphone options for each unit; a 'boom mic' probably good for half or 3/4 helmets, and a smaller mic that velcros to the interior helmet in front of your mouth, which is what I installed knowing that I can change at any time.
I installed the unit and tinkered with positioning and had it working in under 30 minutes. I paired it with my iPhone 4s. I played with the unit at home, then I took a 1200+ mile trip a week ago on my BMW K1200gt. The music sounded great. I experimented with Pandora, but with spotty signal strength on a real journey, it was unreliable, which has nothing to do with the bluetooth. So, I mostly played the 900+ songs loaded on my phone. The Bluetooth pairing was quick and easy. The music sounded Great! The volume and clarity were beyond expectations. a common complaint with various helmet Bluetooth systems was poor speaker quality. Not so with this system. And I couldn't crank the volume all the way up without hurting my ears.
I made a phone call once I got on the interstate going 85mph to test it. I also received several calls later during the trip and asked for a 'review' of my voice from each person I spoke with. While I 'felt like' my voice wasn't going to be heard or understood speaking inside my full-face helmet. Each person was surprised when I told them where I was speaking to them from. One said, "you sound loud and clear and I can't tell any difference in your voice at all." As I said earlier, I ride a K1200gt, which has a great faring and adjustable windshield. I did raise the windshield when speaking on the phone to eliminate any wind around my helmet at all.Read more › "
I use NRR 33 E-A-R Soft Blast UF Foam Ear Plugs and with these, I have no problem hearing music at 75mph from the speakers. I have also tried having a phone conversation and could hear the other person fine. He could also hear me. " The SMH-10 is a great unit that performs as advertised. Setup is pretty painless if you follow the directions closely. Installation is simple but be aware that different helmets might present different challenges. I bought the matched set. Installed mine in a Scorpion Modular exo-900 helmet. The speaker cut outs were NOT big enough to house the Sena speakers and are therefore squeezed into place using friction. My friend installed his on an HJC modular and the speaker cutouts on that helmet are the perfect size to use the adhesive pads. So before you buy this unit check the helmet you plan to install it on and make sure that the logisitics work.
As far as sound, pairing, ease of use etc...once you are paired, operation is pretty simple. Pairing the units for intercom speech was simple as well. The unit is currently paired to my iPod Nano, and Blackberry 9370. While I can use the 9370 for audio playback, I prefer to use the nano for music.
Now here is where the quirks come in: rare but some occasional dropping of a paired device. I will be riding and all of a sudden the music cuts out...so I have to stop and re-pair and then get moving again. Granted this doesn't happen very often, but it is frustrating when it does. I don't know if this is the SENA or my device so I can't difinitely say that the SENA is the problem, I don't know enough about Bluetooth technology
The sound quality is pretty good for what it is. It is NOT going to sound like a 7.1 surround sound home theater system, and it is a little lacking in bass. Funny enough, it sounds better while wearing ear plugs...I use the cheapo foam ear plugs and I find that the sound in better and has more clarity, as strange as it sounds. It also helps to set your MP3 player to 'bass boost' or equivalent.Read more ›"

Bluetooth v3.0 Wireless
SMH10D-11 can wirelessly connect to other Bluetooth devices supporting HSP/HFP (Headset Profile/Hands Free Profile) and A2DP (Advance Audio Distribution Profile). HSP/HFP is standard in all phones with Bluetooth features. Almost all Bluetooth MP3 players, smartphone, and audio dongles support A2DP to send stereo audio to Bluetooth headsets like the Sena SMH10D-11. Enjoy Bluetooth music playback control by AVRCP: play, pause, track forward and track back.
Other Bluetooth features include Multi-Pair to allow intercom functionality for 4 persons, and compatibility with select motorcycle GPS systems.
Individual Adjustable Volume Profiles
You can easily decrease/increase the volume of the voice, music and intercom using Jog Dial. The SMH10D-11 can save volume levels of previously connected profiles. This means that phone volume (HSP/HFP), music volume (A2DP), and intercom volumes will be saved separately and return to its own saved volume level whenever associated profile is reconnected.
Profile volume adjustment is only affected during the use of its specific profile. However, when changing volume during standby mode, then volume change applies to all profiles. Alert tones like low battery warning and connection tones can only be adjusted in standby mode.
The SMH10D-11 will fit onto various types of helmets. The universal microphone kit included in this bundle includes both a boom mic and a wire mic, and will fit onto most types of helmets. For installations which may require extra wire length, ear buds instead of speakers, and wire microphone instead of boom microphone, Sena offers different types of clamps as an additional accessory (sold separately), to allow various installations and user preferences.

" We purchased the Sena SMH10D-11 for our motorcycle helmets. We previously purchased the Scala Pro Rider at $400.00 and returned them after 4 uses. They are difficult to turn on and of, did not connect to each other without hours of tinkering with, always had to re-connect with difficulty, died after a few hours of use, charging them overnight. The Scala had invisible buttons that were not easy to press.
The Sena are awesome, right out of the box, set up took a couple minutes, Bluetooth was instant, betw. helmets, iPhone. The music from my iPhone sounds excellent in stereo.
I love that it has a (jog)dial to turn volume up & down, it makes it so much easier. Also, has a flat microphone that Velcros to the inside of your helmet so you don't have to use the boom mic. it's almost invisible that it's there, if you use a full face that is.
Sena was $100. less but 100% better. Love IT "

" I decided to go ahead and order the Sena SMH10-11. So far I love it. I am pretty happy with it. Here are some of the reasons.
Options galore. What kind of options you say?
1. You can use earbuds with the optional accessory. I haven't thrown down the cash yet, but I am definitely considering it in the future.
2. You can use the boom mic, or the wired mic if you get the SMH10-11. Typically boom mic for modular, wired mic for full face, but up to you.
3. There is an aux input, so you can wire non bluetooth accessories as well. Haven't tried it yet, since I use my phone.
4. You can get the SMH5 for a partner for cheap. The SMH5 runs about $100. The main difference is smaller speakers, less range, less connectivity, and no aux. Perfect for a secondary set or to convince your cheap ass friend to buy so you can communicate while on the road. It does pair with the SMH10.
5. Firmware updates. They just released v4.2 last month or so.
The wired mic is really nice because I really disliked the idea of a boom sticking out of my helmet. Now, they do have the boom where it's a wired boom now, so you can stick it in the helmet so half the boom flex is not sticking out of the helmet which is a nice touch, but I still prefer the wired mic. Much smaller and manageable. However, maybe the sound isn't as good? I haven't compared the two."

" I received the SMH10-11 two weeks ago. I installed it in my Shoei full face helmet the following day. This item comes with two microphone options for each unit; a 'boom mic' probably good for half or 3/4 helmets, and a smaller mic that velcros to the interior helmet in front of your mouth, which is what I installed knowing that I can change at any time.
I installed the unit and tinkered with positioning and had it working in under 30 minutes. I paired it with my iPhone 4s. I played with the unit at home, then I took a 1200+ mile trip a week ago on my BMW K1200gt. The music sounded great. I experimented with Pandora, but with spotty signal strength on a real journey, it was unreliable, which has nothing to do with the bluetooth. So, I mostly played the 900+ songs loaded on my phone. The Bluetooth pairing was quick and easy. The music sounded Great! The volume and clarity were beyond expectations. a common complaint with various helmet Bluetooth systems was poor speaker quality. Not so with this system. And I couldn't crank the volume all the way up without hurting my ears.
I made a phone call once I got on the interstate going 85mph to test it. I also received several calls later during the trip and asked for a 'review' of my voice from each person I spoke with. While I 'felt like' my voice wasn't going to be heard or understood speaking inside my full-face helmet. Each person was surprised when I told them where I was speaking to them from. One said, "you sound loud and clear and I can't tell any difference in your voice at all." As I said earlier, I ride a K1200gt, which has a great faring and adjustable windshield. I did raise the windshield when speaking on the phone to eliminate any wind around my helmet at all.Read more › "
I use NRR 33 E-A-R Soft Blast UF Foam Ear Plugs and with these, I have no problem hearing music at 75mph from the speakers. I have also tried having a phone conversation and could hear the other person fine. He could also hear me. " The SMH-10 is a great unit that performs as advertised. Setup is pretty painless if you follow the directions closely. Installation is simple but be aware that different helmets might present different challenges. I bought the matched set. Installed mine in a Scorpion Modular exo-900 helmet. The speaker cut outs were NOT big enough to house the Sena speakers and are therefore squeezed into place using friction. My friend installed his on an HJC modular and the speaker cutouts on that helmet are the perfect size to use the adhesive pads. So before you buy this unit check the helmet you plan to install it on and make sure that the logisitics work.
As far as sound, pairing, ease of use etc...once you are paired, operation is pretty simple. Pairing the units for intercom speech was simple as well. The unit is currently paired to my iPod Nano, and Blackberry 9370. While I can use the 9370 for audio playback, I prefer to use the nano for music.
Now here is where the quirks come in: rare but some occasional dropping of a paired device. I will be riding and all of a sudden the music cuts out...so I have to stop and re-pair and then get moving again. Granted this doesn't happen very often, but it is frustrating when it does. I don't know if this is the SENA or my device so I can't difinitely say that the SENA is the problem, I don't know enough about Bluetooth technology
The sound quality is pretty good for what it is. It is NOT going to sound like a 7.1 surround sound home theater system, and it is a little lacking in bass. Funny enough, it sounds better while wearing ear plugs...I use the cheapo foam ear plugs and I find that the sound in better and has more clarity, as strange as it sounds. It also helps to set your MP3 player to 'bass boost' or equivalent.Read more ›"
